Bordeaux is one of the most visited towns in France, renowned for it's wine, it's cuisine, and it's distinct city districts such as Les Quais and La Victoire.  Capital of the Aquitaine region, Bordeaux is an ideal location for basing oneself whilst on holidays - within easy reach of the city by car are the picturesque towns of Bayonne, Leon and Biarritz (on the coast) as well as the Roquetaillade Castle, the Chateau de Curton, and the vineyard and town of Saint Emilion.  Little wonder that Bordeaux's international airport, Aéroport de Bordeaux-Mérignac (Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport), averages close to three and a half million visitors each year.

Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport is located approximately six kilometres west of Bordeaux itself, closer to the satellite town of Mérignac from which it gets half it's name.  The airport has a single runway and multi-level terminal and was originally used as a military airbase.  It now sees a number of regional and international flights, including those from London Gatwick (British Airways), Manchester (BMI-Baby), Birmingham (BMI-Baby), Bristol (EasyJet), and Southampton (FlyBe).  The best time spent in Bordeaux and the surrounding Aquitaine area is likely to be by car, exploring the many vineyards and villages.  Because of this demand for car hire there are a large number of rental companies based from the airport, including Ada, Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Budget, National/Citer and Sixt.  Fortunately the airport is located close by to the Bordeaux ring-road (the E05/A630) - simply follow the Av. René Cassin and you will be fed onto the motorway, allowing you to navigate Bordeaux with ease.
